The two letter Taboo word

And WATCH TV!, originally uploaded by ailingnjames.

TV!!!!!!!!!!!

Now i know everything about The Arena, Dance Floor, SuperNanny, American Idol, Ellen Talkshow (I like), Tyra Talkshow (I don’t like), Random Acts etc…………. we’ve been watching A LOT of TV.

I mean it’s not like i really need to BUT it’s getting quite fun watching TV. When we didn’t have a TV, i didn’t feel like we missed out on anything. I think if i didn’t have a TV now, i wd still feel like we didn’t miss anything. But i have to say it’s still fun watching TV.

I’ve always maintained my stand about not letting Sophie watch random TV. But that day, she really whined and whined and i was alone in the house and i wanted to just have lunch in peace, so I did the taboo thing – I LET HER WATCH RANDOM TV. But it was amazing, seseme’s street was on so thank God.

That’s her watching TV. :)

Watching TV is not necessarily bad. It is only bad when we watch trash and I mean sometimes really trash! My twins learnt their ABCs and 123s and their first words frm Sesame St. Tried and tested and to be honest, letting them watch Sesame St does help in allowing me to do some chores and cook for them while it’s on. A note of caution: Don’t ever let her watch Teletubbies (if they are still around). They are too babyish and she won’t learn anything ….

Haha… yah me too.. i learnt everything i know from Sesame’s St. :) But is it too young for a baby to start watching tv? And how long do you let them watch for? I really enjoyed watching w her too. There was a nice little story cartoon after SS. I miss good cartoons w good storylines…

Best to keep it short at this age. Maybe 15 -30 mins max. Don’t want them to be over simulated and wants sights and sounds all the time. Actually it is a good habit to turn on good children songs. There is a good collection of christian CDs for children. My girls used to enjoy them and it keeps them company when you are busy.. The Donut Man or the Veggie Tale ones are good. Or the nursery rhymes. Other things you can do to keep her busy is to give her some toys which she can try to handle with her hands. It will help her motor skills as well. There are those colorful cubes made of cloth, cloth books, hard cove books, plastic blocks …. or even those mobiles where she can press button and there is a song or create some other noise and sound. Helps them to co-ordinate their eyes and hands.. it’s fun having a baby at this age. They are so responsive …

Yah lor don’t beat yourself up over letting Sophie watch TV. At leas now we have a designated free Children’s Channel (Kids Central) so you know what she watches is relatively OK.

In fact I enjoy watching Batman, X-Men and the like with my kids when they are on. :-D
