Toyland

Sophie’s toys

I noticed that when she was at B’s place last Sun and then ML’s place on Mon. At B’s place, I saw her observing the toys and exploring them one by one. And then at ML’s, she was very quiet even though she was sleepy (near naptime) coz she was busy playing with the toys. Told myself she must have been bored of her old toys already, I must get her some new ones.

So……… after dinner with my in laws on Mon, we walked around a bit at Turf City (we were there for yummy seafood!). Found a shop that sold everything. The toys were so cheap!

We ended up getting 4 different toys for less than $40!

I intend to open one toy every week/special occasions so that after a while Sophie gets a variety. So far I’ve opened two. One alphabet electronic toy (you can press the keys and it says the alphabets, plays music and spells) and this train you see here.

Sophie actually played with this train for 1 hr on her own. I was SO surprised! It’s quite cool. It’s got different parts – a phone, a dial, blocks ABC, 123 to fit, it can move around on its own if you turn on the music. Er… only thing the music has no volume. Only one volume. LOUD! So norm it’s off coz only I can turn it on for her. Unless Sophie is a genius and she can find the on/off switch.

oooooooo i must say this. Cheap is not always good lah…… coz the alphabet toy is toneless. As in the music is out of tune! It’s hilarous! Thank God the alphabets is not read by a cheena person like Air is for Airple. Faint… But at least the spelling is accurate lah…

I must say I had a lot of fun looking for toys.

No lah he doesn’t look old. He still looks the same. We’ve all grown older. It’s been 10 yrs leh since we used to hang out. We all look older now i think. If you are looking for really really cheap toys, go for garage sales esp the expat ones on Sat mornings. Must wake up early and read newspapers or read the classifieds the day before. Or else look at the Cold Storage notice boards. These are the places where you can get really cheap but GOOD educational toys. Used to get toys for $1 or $2 for my girls and they last forever until we pass them to other people. Also you may want to rotate your toys every few weeks so that it looks like she gets new ones everytime. Pretty good trick until they discover tht they are actually the same but it should buy you some time before you need to get new ones.

Another idea is to swap toys with some of her playmates. If you have enough friends who have kids of the same age, just swap them every few weeks like a toy exchange and the kids get new toys all the time!!

Nyet: WAH! $1-2?!? But that’s like 10 years ago right? Heh… Sounds like a good idea but really need to clean it up first right? Coz if other kids are like Sophie, the toys are prob laced with lotsa saliva!!!

Btw, how do you clean your toys? Do you use disinfecting stuff?

Normal soapy hot water and lots of sun after that!

Did I also mention I got a beautiful brand new Mothercare cot for $150 instead of the $400 plus?
