Sophie my toddler

I have a little toddler that is everything a toddler is except toddling (like i said, if there is such a word).

Sophie has been so…….. i can’t even describe it…. in the past few months. Some say gregarious (fond of company/sociable), some say sweet, some say precious (only her nice Godpa & Godma says that ah), some say cute. I say, she’s a clown on good days and super demanding/in your face on bad days.

Look at her – trying to feed my MIL noodles. So funny right? I love this picture lah.

I’m not even sure if her ability to talk early is a good thing now. It was super amusing at first and even made me proud on occasions. BUT it’s turned into – mamee, jujujujuju. mamee, help. mamee, eat. mamee, nananananana (for banana). mamee, mamee, mamee. up up (wanting to be carried). watch watch (wanting to watch tv/youtube?!? yes elmo on youtube). pen ah (translated to open ah, donno why she puts ah at the end of everything she says)… and the list goes on.

She just doesn’t give up once she’s onto something and she’s not at the age where I can negotiate with her.

For example, last night, she was eating her boring bland beef and broccoli porridge (check it out! alliteration! Mrs Creffield, i’ve done you proud!) and suddenly she decides she wants "nananana" instead. She refused to eat and insisted we give her banana. But I insisted she finish the food or I will remove the food. I did. She protested and my MIL took her away to play. But halfway through, she didn’t forget! She still insisted "nananana". Argh! This girl doesn’t forget.

Anyways, the story goes. We put her back on the hairchair fed her a few more spoonfuls and then gave her the "nanana". So guess who won? The little toddler. But at least I got a few more spoonfuls in. So I won slightly? Sigh…

Everyday she’s asking for the "vices" through the day:-

1. watch (tv)
2. jujuju (pacifier – we only give this to her when she’s about to nap/sleep but now she’s asking for it through the day!)
3. cuit (biscuit)

Mums with older kids, is this battle going to last forever? How ah?

I like this pic. I think she looked super cute here. Did you know that Mediacorp is looking for people to submit their funniest home videos for the upcoming Singapore’s Funniest Home Videos after the American version? Maybe you can send some of Sophie!!

Welcome to the toddling and demanding world. This is the time when they assert themselves, telling you exactly what they want. Not a bad thing except that there are times when you do not want to give in to their bidding. This is the time when you have to learn to be firm with her and exercise some discipline. It is hard because she can be very cute and your heart melts the moment she smiles but hey, they are also very smart in playing the ‘cute card’. So, be aware!!
