Sophie is 16 mths!

Dearest Sophie,

You’re 16 mths old today!

The highlight of the past month for you has been WALKING! You’ve been learning to walk – at first you tried to stand on your own, two weeks later you started to let us hold your hand to walk and two weeks after you started walking on your own. Now, you’re walking a few steps on your own so far. You have this super pleased grin on your face as you stand up on your feet and as you walk. It’s been really more fun since you’re more upright (:))… we’ve gone for water play, real walks in the park, etc.

The other big thing was that you were sick for more than a month. You fell sick on 15 Dec and got well and then fell sick again until today. You seem fully well already, didn’t hear you cough at all today. Thank God. Mommy hopes that it’s all about building your immune system and you’ll get stronger after this!

More and more, Daddy and I notice that you can get pretty creative. For example, yesterday at the Forum playground, you can’t cycle on the big kids bike yet but it had a back standing area so you sat on that and started pushing yourself around. You’ll figure all sort of ways to get what you want.

Your love for books and words is still growing and growing. This month your fav book is Goodnight Moon. You’ll ask to read it 2-3 times at one go! I was so amazed that you memorised most of it and can recite some of the last words accurately!

Your spoken language and comprehension also amazes me. Today instead of making a fuss when your sippy cup dropped, you said "Mummy, mummy, mummy!", I said "What?" and you said "Drop!" Thinking back, I used to be so worried that you’ll turn into a whiny lil kid coz you whined so much! But I guess it must have been super frustrating for you coz you are so expressive! You really do cry, laugh, smile, request etc to the fullest.

You are a friendly baby and you love kids and people in general. You are always ready with a smile. You’ll wave to them and say hi! You’ll even squeal and get all excited if you spot a kid coming near.

You’ve started to scribble more these days. In fact, you just left your first marks on your toys! I left you with a pen (my mistake!) and when I returned, the pen marks were all over! Argh! Reminds me of the days when your uncle and I were little, we used crayons on our white walls! ooooooooo Grandma and Grandpa were SO mad! They had to wallpaper the whole house! But we ended up getting nice cartoon wallpaper for our room. Hiak hiak… But it’s a no no for you k?

You really bring a lot of joy to the people around you. Actually before you were born, that was prophesied over you a few times when people prayed for us. That you would be a joy. The word JOY came up a couple of times. That’s what the Lord has made you to be – a joy.

We love you,

Mommy
