Travel Pack List For 21 Month Old
Creammacha asked for a travel pack list so I thought I’ll share this with everyone.
I’m generally a light packer and I make do with most things esp if I know i can buy the stuff there. In general, we’ll keep to 2 cabin bags (that is luggages that will fit the airplane cabin requirements but we check them in) and 2 hand carry bags. On our first long trip to Brisbane, Sophie was only 6/7 months and she was JUST weaning (argh!) so we had 2 bags for Sophie and one for us. Haha. One bag JUST for her feeding equipment e.g blender, storage boxes etc. Unbelievable!
Pack List for Sophie at 21 months
(Note: Beyond 18 months, Sophie has been fed outside food on trips)
On board the plane
1. Napping/Sleeping gear
- Pacifier, Bolster, Blanket, Minnie mouse
2. Extra clothes, sweater
3. 2-3 diapers (depending on how long your flight is)
4. Wet Wipes (they also give this on SIA flights) plus lotsa tissues
5. Entertainment (For a toddler, this is very important. Alternatively, walk up and down the aisle and entertain others. That’s what we do too!)
- iPod (with Barney), Toys small enough to fit into Sophie’s handbag, Crayons, Stickers, Snacks (this comes under entertainment
)
6. Food
- For lunch/dinner, once we get on board, we inform the air stewardess that we need food for Sophie. They’ll either keep a kids meal/adult meal for her and serve it whenever we need it. Unfortunately I have no other experiences other than with SIA so I’m not sure how the other airlines do it. We took China Airlines once, er… if I can, I wouldn’t do that again.
- Water bottle
- I always pack a few pieces of bread just in case
Main Check In Luggage
1. Clothes
- I normally pack enough for per day + 2 extra sets if it’s a short trip. If it’s a long trip (more than 5 days), I just pack about 5 sets and I either buy more or wash when I get there.
- Extra sweater (esp if it’s a colder place coz I found that in HK, I needed to buy another one because I only brought 1 and it got dirty)
2. Diapers
- This takes up so much space! At least 1/2 Sophie’s luggage esp for long trips. I estimate about 4 per day. What I did was I bought a new packet of diapers and packed 1/2 of it in. It takes up less space than loose diapers.
- More wet wipes
3. Bathroom Equipment
- Soap for bathing (I use the same for shampooing)
- Small towel (I left this out, I just used the hotel’s towel but a smaller towel might come in handy)
- Wash cloth (For whatever reason, bringing one or two is always handy. Sometimes you need to clean their teeth/ears etc..)
- Toothbrush (Or whatever you use to brush their teeth. We used a cloth.)
- Washing Detergent for clothes
- Dish Detergent and Sponge (I find this absolutely necessary for washing Sophie’s bottles and bowls)
4. Meds
- For cough, cold, fever (panadol), etc
- Ear Thermometer (THIS IS CRUCIAL. It saved Sophie the last time in Shanghai when her temp rose high in the night)
- Syringe for feeding meds
5. More Entertainment
- Sophie’s bedtime books
- Other toys
6. Food
- Bowl and spoon to bring around (I brought this but I didn’t bring it around because most restaurants have small bowls and teaspoons, good enough for Sophie to use)
- Scissors (I find this very useful for cutting up Sophie’s food)
- When I arrive in a country, I normally try to make a trip to the supermarket first to get fruits, bread, cornflakes, milk, yogurt and snacks. I didn’t bring powdered milk on the last trip. I gave her fresh milk. It’s much easier.
- Snacks – raisins, biscuits
- Packet food from Pigeon (I find this useful when the meal is late)
- Thermos flask (Can you believe it? I forgot to bring this on the last trip coz I assumed we’ll be eating out all the time but I realised that I could have put the packet food in it to feed Sophie outside if necessary. Good to have but can do without too)
- Sandwich bags (e.g ziploc bags in diff sizes)
- Snack box
7. Misc
- Nail Clippers
- Plastic bags (To tie up and throw smelly diaper)
- Stroller (Check this in last before you board the plane unless you want to chase/carry your lil toddler to the boarding area)
- Baby carrier (you can bring this on the plane as well if needed)
